Simon Grondin: Five Short Stories About Time and Rhythm Perception

Simon Grondin is Professor at the Université Laval, Québec.

ABSTRACT:
Temporal processing is fundamental to event perception and conception, rhythm and music cognition, and intersensory integration.
Our brains integrate and segregate sensory information rapidly, linking events and forming representations that serve to situate past events and anticipate future ones. Temporal perception adapts so well that meeting these requirements may be taken for granted. However, there are specific brain mechanisms for solving temporal requirements. This talk is about psychological time and rhythm. Various ways for studying sensitivity to time and for keeping track of time are proposed. The main hypothesis about interval timing, the internal clock (a pacemaker-counter device), is described and some its limits are discussed.

About Simon Grondin:

En 2001, il préside le 11th Annual Meeting of the Canadian Society for Brain, Behavior, and Cognitive Science, tenu aussi à Québec.
