HUMAN COMPUTER INTERACTION MEETS COMPUTER MUSIC: THE MIDWAY PROJECT

Description

MIDWAY (Musical Interaction Design Workbench And technologY) is an Inria international associate team created in 2014 from a collaboration between Inria and CIRMMT researchers on Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) and Computer Music. The project's goals are to bridge models and tools from both domains by combining recent developments, and providing a musical interaction design workbench to facilitate the exploration and definition of new interactive technologies for both musical creation and performance. Such models and tools can expand the means available for musical expression, as well as provide HCI researchers with a better foundation for the design of tools for "extreme" users.

This workshop will discuss the results of the project (that ends in 2017) and the next steps in this collaboration, most notably through an international research chair at Inria Lille (2016-2020).

MIDWAY is funded by the Inria International Associate Teams Program, the Fonds de Recherche du Québec - Nature et Technologies, and the France Canada Research Fund.

Mjolnir is an Inria research team created in January 2015 in partnership with Université Lille 1 within the Joint Research Unit UMR 9189 CNRS-Centrale Lille-Université Lille 1, CRIStAL.
