The Centre for Interdisciplinary Research in Music Media and Technology (CIRMMT) is pleased to announce an upcoming research meeting on measuring movement in music performance. This workshop is organized by CIRMMT Research Axis 2 (Musical gestures, devices and motion capture).  It will take place on September 2nd, 2011, from 9:00am-2:00pm in A832.

Description

This workshop will discuss various approaches to the measurement of performer movements in music, as well as ways to analyze the movements captured. Researchers will present their work on this topic, followed by open discussion.

    • Vanessa Yaremchuk and Marcelo Wanderley: Using ANNs in the analysis of movements in music performance
    • Steven Livingstone and Caroline Palmer: Temporal coordination of facial expressions in vocal performance
    • Vincent Freour and Isabelle Cossette: Simultaneous acquisition of breathing, facial expressions and gestures of singers
    • Eric Vatikiotis-Bateson: Are there "events" in signals?
    • Jane Davidson: Cue or symbol and synchronisation: Knowing what and how to measure the musician's movement
  • 10:40-11:00 - Coffee break
  • 11:00-13:00 - Discussion of the talks, related issues and possible collaborations.
  • 13:00-14:00 - Light lunch
