Description
Motion capture is used nowadays in a multitude of contexts, in music, sports, gaming, etc. Although the analysis tools created in different fields and countries may vary according to the research needs, they also share many commonalities. This 3-day workshop is meant for various researchers from varied communities to share tools and discuss challenges and solutions of common interest.
The first day will be mainly dedicated to the introduction of a Mocap Toolbox developed by the research team at the Department of Music, Art and Culture Studies of the University of Jyväskylä, Finland. Day 2 will include demonstration of tools that apply to ‘MoCap in the field techniques’ with Frédéric Marin from the Laboratoire biomécanique et bioingénierie (BMBI) de l’Université de Technologies de Compiègne, France. Day 3 will focus on discussions on synchronization of data and measurements with motion capture as well as discussion on the development of a mocap data repository through multiple communities.
*Please note that experience with Matlab programming is recommended but not essential. However, to get the most out of the workshop, especially on Day 1, participants are encouraged to bring laptops that have Matlab installed in it.
A common motion capture data set that contains a variety of music-related movements will be accessible to participants a few days before the start of the workshop. During the workshop, participants can experiment with the various functions or inquire about their own data specifically.
Please see the following links to download an article about the toolbox and the toolbox itself:
