News Item CIRMMT receives $11M funding through a grant from Canada Foundation for Innovation's 2015 Innovation Fund
CIRMMT will receive funding from the Canada Foundation for Innovation's 2015 Innovation Fund for their project The science of the art of music: “Live Expression “in situ”: Musical and Audiovisual Performance and Reception." The projects funded under the Canada Foundation for Innovation's 2015 Innovation Fund endeavour to position the country as a global research leader, from outer space, to the surgeon's table, to our interconnected day-to-day world. The state-of-the-art infrastructure funded will transform the Canadian research landscape; the work it supports will propel Canadian research towards the leading edge.
News Item Robert Godin to receive one of 16 honorary degrees from McGill at spring Convocation
In an article in the McGill Reporter, Robert Godin and the 15 other honourees from this spring's convocation are listed, with Principal Suzanne Fortier noting "We are honouring 16 individuals with a diverse range of backgrounds, expertise and experience who are united by their exceptional contributions to improving the lives of so many."
News Item CIRMMT student Sven-Amin Lembke awarded two McGill convocation prizes
CIRMMT student Sven-Amin Lembke has been awarded two McGill convocations prizes that will be awarded on May 27, 2015. He will receive one of two Governor General's Gold Medal awards for the most outstanding McGill graduate receiving a Doctoral degree in 2014-15 in any discipline, as well as The McGill Alumni Association Graduate Award which is given to an outstanding McGill graduate receiving a degree in 2014-15 in any discipline
News Item CIRMMT member Philippe Leroux awarded Le Prix de commande de la Fondation Simone et Cino Del Duca
Le Prix de composition musicale de la Fondation Simone et Cino Del Duca is awarded every year since 1995 on a proposal from the musical section of the Académie des Beaux-Arts. Le prix de commande is a commissioning prize of 15,000 Euros that is given to a French composer, or a composer working in France, for the creation of a short orchestral work. Le prix de commande of 2015 was awarded to composer and CIRMMT member Philippe Leroux for the commission of an original work that will be created under the Coupole of the Institut de France in the 2015 Séance Solennelle of the Académie des Beaux-Arts.
News Item CIRMMT Collaborator Isabelle Peretz receives the 2015 Excellence Prize from Le Fonds de recherche du Québec – nature et technologies (FRQNT)
Isabelle Peretz, professor in the Department of Psychology at the Université de Montréal and a CIRMMT Collaborator, was recently awarded the 2015 Excellence Prize from Le Fonds de recherche du Québec – nature et technologies (FRQNT). It is given just once per year to highlight the "exceptional contribution of a university researcher in advancing the natural sciences, mathematics, and engineering and recognizing its achievement and benefits for Quebec." On February 1st, 2015 the Quasar saxophone quartet was awarded an Opus Prize from le Conseil Québécois de la Musique for "Concert de l'année - Musiques actuelle, électroacoustique" for the live@CIRMMT concert De souffles et de machines which took place on March 26-27th, 2014.

Quasar quatuor de saxophones has been nominated for the 30th Grand Prix du Conseil des arts de Montréal for its concert combining high energy and digital virtuosity, De souffles et de machines, presented in the context of Printemps numérique and co-produced by the Centre for Interdisciplinary Research in Music, Media, and Technology.

News Item CIRMMT student Dan Steele co-releases article in Le Devoir
Ramdam Urbain is part of a series of Balades at UQAM's Coeur des Sciences where participants from the general public are led on an academic-focused tour through a part of the city led by an expert (or 2) in the field. Dan Steele worked with Romain Dumoulin, researcher and noise inspector for the Plateau, to write the tour. They focus on the potential for sounds to positively transform the city as well as the current frameworks for noise and its mitigation.
