Ecological validity of soundscape reproduction

  Research Project Information
Runtime: Jan 01, 2005 until Jun 01, 2006
Scientific staff: Brian Katz; Jean-Dominic Polack
Funding: Valorisation-Recherche Qu├ębec (VRQ)

The ecological validity of sound reproduction systems was explored using linguistic analysis of verbal data. Interviews conducted in actual environments, which were also recorded and then presented in stereo and multichannel reproductions. An acoustic phenomenon gives rise to different cognitive representations depending on the spatial presentation. The reproduction system quality must thus be adapted to properties of mental representations such as spatial immersion and source identification.
