Long-term auditory memory for absolute musical features such as pitch and tempo is widespread among the general population. Exposure to melodies not only enhances memory for that melody but also preference for it. The present experiment investigates the effect of exposure to musical keys on preference for novel songs. Two versions of novel songs were presented, one in a popular key and one in an unpopular key. There was a trend towards preference for popular keys.
