CIRMMT COVID-19 Lab Booking Guide

Last updated March 19th 2021

GENERAL INFORMATION

  • Access to CIRMMT is based on McGill's guidelines. For the most up to date information, please visit McGill - Coronavirus.
  • Please make sure to contact the technical team prior to make any booking to discuss the specifics of your project (cirmmt.tech [at] mcgill.ca): we want to make sure that every aspect (access to the building, access to the labs for you and participants, safety protocols, disinfection of equipment, etc.) is properly set up.
  • Lab bookings will continue to be organized preferably on a weekly basis (Monday-Friday), to ensure proper cleaning before/after each research project. Research hours should take place between 8:30am and 5pm, Monday to Friday. If you need to run experiments over the week-end or after hours, please let us know.

MANDATORY COVID SELF-ASSESSMENT FORM/EMAIL

Every member (professor, student, technician) needs to submit a COVID Self-Assessment form every day they go to campus.

  • If you have a McGill ID, please fill out the COVID Self-Assessment form through Minerva.
  • If you are a CIRMMT member from another institution, please fill out the linked PDF form and send it to cirmmt.tech [at] mcgill.ca .
For either form, if your answer is Yes to any of the questions, we will ask you NOT to come to the CIRMMT laboratories.

    PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT

    • Procedural masks will be provided and must be worn upon entry to Strathcona building (555 Sherbrooke). Additional masks and disinfectants will be provided upon entry to CIRMMT, as well as in the labs when necessary. Needs will be assessed at the booking stage in your discussions with the technical team.

    EQUIPMENT BOOKING

    • For use in the labs, the usual procedure is in place (book the equipment and the lab, so that the tech team can review your request and help you get the most appropriate equipment for your research).
    • For use outside of the labs, we are also following usual procedures, augmented by recommendations and guidelines for cleaning/disinfection whenever necessary.

      RESEARCH WITH HUMAN PARTICIPANTS

Research projects involving human participants need to comply with McGill procedures (https://www.mcgill.ca/coronavirus/resources/directives-resumption-research-human-participants)
        There are two main scenarios:
        • 1. 2-meter distancing can be respected; There is no need to amend your ethics certificate, but you need to adapt or conceive your setup to include all necessary safety measures.
        • 2. 2-metre distancing is likely impossible to respect, you will need a revised ethics certificate prior to starting your research. It is the researcher’s responsibility to make sure they have the proper ethics certificate.
          Time between participants:
          • To ensure proper renewal of the full quantity of air in the labs (3 times between participants), and to give you enough time to disinfect any piece of equipment that needs to be cleaned between participants, you need to leave 30 minutes minimum between each participant.

ACCESS TO THE BUILDINGS AND LABS

            • Researchers: access to CIRMMT is through the 555 Sherbrooke West (Strathcona building, up the stairs) - not through the usual Wirth building, 527 Sherbrooke West. Access to the labs is strictly restricted to the researchers involved in the project: you must use your McGill ID card or Lenel card. If you do not have such a card, please let us know - but keep in mind that you will need a card only if you have a booking in the labs.
            • Participants: the procedure to welcome participants will be discussed in detail during the preparatory meeting that will take place prior to the beginning of any laboratory booking.
            • Please note that all visitors must inform their sponsor via email if they receive a positive test result for COVID-19 within 48 hours of being on campus, or if they develop symptoms within 48 hours of being on campus and receive a positive test result. Sponsors are reminded to phone McGill Security at 514-398-3000 if they receive such a notification from a visitor.
            • Researchers must provide a standard information letter to participants prior to the experiment, on top of the consent form specifically related to their research: (https://www.mcgill.ca/coronavirus/files/coronavirus/participant_information_letter_for_adult_participants.docx)
