Abstract

Hearing - more so than any other of our senses - combines richness as a conduit for information with a deep emotional connection. But, at the same time, it is comparatively out of our control. I'll describe the journey I've been on over my career at Bose Corporation, working with colleagues to offer people a better, quieter backdrop for their music, for communication or just for their thoughts. With a few examples, I will connect this to how, for over 50 years, Bose has been obsessed with innovation in the quest of products that astonish people, in unexpected, meaningful, and emotionally resonant ways. Finally, I'll give a glimpse of where we're headed next in this quest as we aim to give people control over their hearing, what I believe is our most important sense.
