*Please note that this lecture is taking place on a Tuesday, instead of the usual Thursday

Workshops and Research Meetings

March 2, 2012 - Training workshop by Robert Wechsler on movement, expression and music

  • This roundtable with Robert Wechsler from Palindrome performance group will discuss the use of motion tracking technology to control sound synthesis.  It is supported by CIRMMT and the Goethe-Institut.

March 5, 2012 - Training workshop on CLUMEQ: High performance computing centre

  • This workshop is an introduction to Compute Canada, Calcul Quebec and the CLUMEQ centre at McGill.

March 14, 2012 - Workshop on measuring coordination between performer and audience response

  • This is a joint RA2/RA5 workshop and will feature presentations by Matt Haimowitz, Daniel Levitin, Fabrice Marandola, Stephen McAdams, Caroline Palmer, Michael Schutz, Petri Toiviainen and Marcelo Wanderley.

March 22, 2012 - Workshop on string instrument measurements

  • This is an RA1 workshop and will feature presentations by George Bissinger among others.

March 26 & 27, 2012 - Training workshop on InDesign CS5

  • This two-day workshop is open to all, with a fee of $70 per day (note that we have full funding available for 5 CIRMMT students/members). Registration is mandatory.

March 30, 2012 - Workshop on Pyo - Making sound with Python

  • In this workshop, Olivier Bélanger will present pyo, a Python module for digital signal processing. The workshop will feature an introduction to pyo, a presentation of various audio projects, and a hands-on python hacking session.  More information about this workshop will become available on the CIRMMT website in due course.


March 6, 2012 - Polo Vallejo: The harmonic language of Georgian polyphonies

  • Polo Vallejo will give a talk in Tanna Hall from 4:30-6:00pm, followed by an academic presentation of the film 'Africa The Beat' at 7:30pm.

March 15, 2012 - Jean-François Petiot: Subjective and objective study of musical instruments

  • Dr. Jean-François Petiot is Professor of Engineering Design at the Ecole Centrale de Nantes (ECN), France and a visiting researcher currently at CIRMMT.

Music Perception and Cognition Student Colloquium Series

  •  March 8 and May 3 from 14:30 to 18:00 in A832, New Music Building, 527 Sherbrooke St West.

These meetings are invaluable opportunities for graduate students and postdocs whose work relates to perception and cognition to establish contacts with colleagues from neuroscience, psychology, musicology and music theory as well as for obtaining feedback on their own work.

CIRMMT Student Lunch-time Colloquium on Music and Technology

  • The next CIRMMT Student Lunch-time Colloquium on Music and Technology is taking place on Tuesday 13 March from 12 to 1pm. 
  • All CIRMMT students are welcome at this lunch-time meeting to discuss current research, solicit feedback from your peers, present overviews of literature in one area, or anything else that interests you.
  • We are currently seeking students to present and/or choose a topic and lead the discussion, starting 13 March. If this sounds like something you'd like to do, e-mail TrevorKnight [at] Sandwiches will be provided.

Student Symposium & General Assembly

May 22nd & 23rd, 2012 - Mark your calendars!

  • This year’s CIRMMT Student Symposium will take place over two days: Tuesday, May 22nd, and Wednesday, May 23rd, 2012, in the Music Multimedia Room (MMR) at the Schulich School of Music (New Music Building) of McGill University. 
  • The symposium will feature student presentations and performances, as well as internal and external invited keynote speakers. The Student Symposium will include the CIRMMT Annual General Meeting, the CIRMMT Student Concert and an end-of-year reception with food, drinks, music, and dancing. More details and scheduling information will be made available soon.
