ABSTRACT:
With a background in music education, performance and composition, how did a nice ear training teacher get into music perception and cognition research? Christine Beckett will present two current experimental investigations: the first concerns harmonic content of melodic continuations written after hearing an implicative interval; the second looks at possible warm-up activities for two-part melodic dictations. The talk includes an update on an ongoing study of musical dyslexia, being done by a team from the University of Montreal (Sylvie Hebert, p.i., and Isabelle Peretz) and McGill (Dr. Joan Wolforth of OSD), in addition to Dr. Beckett of Concordia.
