Description

In collaboration with the ELVIS project [Electronic Locator of Vertical Interval Successions]:

Led by Julie Cumming, ELVIS was one of 14 projects to be awarded last year's Digging into Data Challenge funding. Jointly offered by Canada's SSHRC, the NEH in the US, and JISC in the UK, Digging into Data asks digital researchers to wrestle with the problems of large data sets - like a million books, or in the case of these music scholars, 600 years of western music.  Read all about the our research here: http://simssa.ca/elvis.

On Friday we will hear presentations from Aberdeen, MIT, Yale, and McGill on their software and current research.  This will be followed by discussion and time to download the software necessary for running queries the next day.  Saturday will be a “Hack Day” where participants will all come together to run queries on the data available in the ELVIS database.  The event will culminate with a discussion of future goals for the project and uses for VIS.
