Description

In the first part of the workshop, the experimental artist Stephanie Castonguay will present her work, and her artistic approach, from DIY electronics to performing with sound. She will also present two of her latest projects: "Elettronica Povera", which consists of an instrument using the electromagnetic field from obsolete electronic devices to create a sound performance; and "Scanner Me, Darkly", which converts the light emitted from modified scanners into audible sound. Following on this presentation, participants will learn how to interact with the aforementioned devices as instruments, exploring them by means of their findings.

***Participants are invited to bring electronic devices, toys, anything that blinks !***

--

Stephanie Castonguay

Fascinated by the origins of our current digital media, Stephanie Castonguay is an experimental artist who explores the materiality of our disrupted communications through her kinetic, visual and sound installations. Using DIY electronics with a hands-on and playful approach, she disassembles discarded parts to reveal the invisible and inaudible phenomenon from our forgotten, broken and obsolete technologies. Her work has been shown in Montreal and abroad: International Montreal/New Music festival, Biennale Internationale d'Art Numérique, Perte de Signal, Eastern Bloc, Fondation Molinari, Centre Fokal (HT), STEIM (NL). She has performed her work at festivals such as Sight & Sound, PirateBlocRadio, Printemps Numériques, Instruments Make Play (NL) and more recently at the Tsonami Sound Art Festival (CL). She is a member of the artist center Perte de Signal.
