Workshop on string instrument measurements

This workshop is organized by CIRMMT Research Axis 1 (Sound modelling, acoustics and signal processing). It will take place on March 22nd, in A832 (New Music Building). This workshop is free and open to all. Registration is required.

This workshop will focus on methods and results of measuring string instrument vibrational characteristics.  It will feature presentations by Dr. George Bissinger, a physics professor from East Carolina University who is renowned for his contributions to our understanding of violin acoustics on 3D experimental modal analysis and far-field radiativity scans of violins.  Other presenters will include Alfonso Perez and Esteban Maestre, who are working on improving sound synthesis models of violins by incorporating measurements.  Attendance is open to both the scientific and music communities, though the presentations will likely contain significant technical content. We plan to engage invited guests and the audience in a discussion session on future directions for string instrument research.
