GUI building with MATLAB

This is a WebEx presentation. The presenter, Jiro Doke, will be off-site but there will be a shared desktop for the graphics and a two-way audio feed. Please bring your laptop with you (with Matlab installed) if you want to follow along with the presenter as he builds his examples. It will take place on Tuesday, November 16, in A-412 (New Music Building). This workshop is free and open to all but registration is required.

Description

In this session, you will learn how to create graphical user interfaces (GUI) in MATLAB. Using examples, you will learn techniques for laying out UI components and programming them to do various tasks. Examples will include playing audio, visualizing signals, recording user inputs, saving results to files, and post-processing results. The attendees are expected to have basic knowledge of MATLAB and know how to write scripts and functions. Some of the topics that will be covered are:

  • Using Handle Graphics to change properties of graphical objects
  • Using GUIDE (GUI Design Environment) to layout and design graphical applications
  • Writing callbacks to program UI components
  • Managing data within the graphical application
  • Creating stand alone applications

About the presenter, Jiro Doke, Ph.D.

Jiro joined MathWorks in May 2006 as a senior application engineer. He received his B.S. from Georgia Institute of Technology and Ph.D. from the University of Michigan, both in Mechanical Engineering. His Ph.D. research focused on biomechanics of human movement, specifically of human gait. His experience in MATLAB comes from extensive use in graduate school, using the tool for data acquisition, analysis, and visualization.
