Effect of rhythmic distortion on melody recognition

  Research Project Information
Runtime: 03/01/2010 until 28/12/2020
Project coordination: Catherine Guastavino; Daniel Levitin

The role of rhythm has been questioned and underexplored in previous research on melody recognition. This project investigates the importance of rhythmic information for melody recognition by asking participants to identify melodies with distorted rhythm and undistorted melodies. Results are expected to inform a larger project to explore the effects of temporal, structural, pitch-related and polyphonic musical facets on melody recognition.
