Antoine Chaigne: Dimensional Analysis and Psychomechanics

Antoine Chaigne is Director of the Mechanical Engineering Department, ENSTA, Paris.

In this talk, we start by presenting some aspects of dimensional analysis which might be of interest in the context of psychomechanics. In connection to this, the contribution of sound synthesis based on physical modeling to psychoacoustics will be discussed. This discussion will be illustrated by various sound examples. Finally, the use of “fictitious materials” for investigating the perception of damped impacted plates, and recent results on the synthesis of rolling sounds will be presented.

Researchers interested in meeting with Prof. Chaigne while he is in Montreal (Sept. 16th-22nd) can contact CIRMMT Director Stephen McAdams.
