Fernando Falci de Souza: "Evolutive Processes for Granular Synthesis in Extended Gabor Spaces"

Fernando Falci de Souza has Bachelor degrees in Computer Science (1997-2001) at the University of Sao Paulo, and Music: Popular Acoustic Bass (2003-2007) at Santa Marcelina Faculty. He is a Master degree candidate since 2008 and his research is concentrated on applications of Interative Genetic Algorithms to Granular Sound Synthesis.

This talk presents EVOGrain, a computer music system that generates and controls granular sounds in real time through a graphical evolutive interface. We also introduce the Extended Gabor Space (EGS), the theoretical framework for EVOGrain. EGS is composed by three two dimensional spaces, namely, Gabor Space, Spatialization Space and Streaming Space. Genetic Algorithms are defined in order to generate sequences of populations which are associated to granular sounds outputs. Finally, EGS is represented by a friendly graphical interface which can be very useful for electronic and electroacoustic musicians.
