This talk will cover theories that attempt to explain the methods and motivations that individuals adopt when searching for information and how this may impact information systems design, especially for musicians and music scholars. I will begin by briefly outlining the research by Dervin, Belkin and Pirolli on Information Needs & Behaviours, and then discuss some underlying "fuzzy behaviours" of individuals that may impact information system usage. Finally, I will introduce three research questions whose answers will directly impact the design and implementation of information systems for musicians and music scholars.
