Title: When the senses touch the design: haptic systems engineering
Abstract: The last two centuries saw us develop technologies to digitally capture and display the sights and sounds around us;  understanding the way our eyes and ears function guided our designs. This century we are already tackling the design of touch displays and integrating them into our most cutting-edge technologies. We'll discuss how our senses of touch lay the groundwork for the engineering behind our state-of-the art haptic technologies and how these displays are shaping the world of simulation.

Title: Haptics↔Audio feedbacks in research and interactive applications
Abstract: This talk will showcase how Haptics and Audio can provide mutual feedback in interactive applications and creative tools. From Audio to Haptics: audio analysis and synthesis techniques can be leveraged to enrich the design space of vibrotactile feedback, to stimulate our tactile sense in unheard ways, in video games and digital musical instruments. From Haptics to Audio: force-feedback devices can trigger finely-tuned movements of our hands and fingers, and can be employed in tools for sound design and audio browsing, to display new dimensions and unleash our creativity. Hands-on demos will be proposed, including some from the Input Devices and Music Interaction Laboratory (IDMIL) at McGill University, with a focus on opensource and openhardware tools.
