COMSOL Workshop

This workshop is organized by CIRMMT Research Axis 1 (Sound modeling, acoustics and processing) and will provide an introduction to the use of the multi-physics modeling software system COMSOL. It will take place on Thursday, March 11, in A512 (New Music Building). This workshop is free and open to all. Registration is required.

Description

COMSOL Multiphysics is an engineering, design, and finite element analysis software environment for the modeling and simulation of any physics-based system.*
This workshop will provide an introduction on the use of COMSOL for solving acoustics problems.  This will include:
- an overview of the graphical user interface
- a general presentation of the finite element theory
- a demonstration of the software with simple acoustic problems (defining geometry, boundary conditions, mesh, solver parameters,
etc.)
- using comsol with the matlab interface (this is one of the most interesting feature)
- a more complex example: the characterization of wind instrument open side holes

*The Computational Acoustic Modeling Laboratory (CAML) owns one license for the COMSOL acoustic module.  CIRMMT is considering a future purchase of COMSOL.

The workshop instructor, Antoine Lefebvre, has been using COMSOL extensively for the characterization of woodwind instrument finger holes, flaring bells and curved bores.
