About World Voice Day (WVD)

World Voice Day (WVD) is a worldwide annual event devoted to the celebration of the power of human voice. Since 2015, McGill University has celebrated World Voice Day in collaboration with students, researchers and professors from a range of interdisciplinary fields. Multiple public events have been held to demonstrate the enormous importance of the voice in our daily lives.

Description

Chronic cough is one of the most common reasons for adults to seek medical attention and affects up to 10% of the general population. Approximately 40% of those with chronic cough report accompanying voice problems. Speech-language pathology students and Dr. Nicole Li-Jessen from the School of Communication Sciences and Disorders will host a 90-minute workshop on voice care and chronic cough.

The following topics will be covered in this workshop:

  • how voice is produced,
  • how voice may be affected by chronic cough and other behaviours,
  • common causes of chronic cough,
  • how to protect your voice, and
  • some simple voice exercises to alleviate common concerns.
