A meeting where CIRMMT Student Representatives for 2023-2024, Alberto Acquilino and Theodora Nestorova will share an introductory talk, with information and events happening around CIRMMT this academic year. We'll try to make it as fruitful as possible for our prospective or returning CIRMMT student members: supply information on how to become a student member, and provide interesting opportunities to meet others, participate in activities, and collaborate in research.
For those who are new to CIRMMT or anyone who would like a refresher on the resources available to CIRMMT Student Members and how to access them, there will be a Student Member Orientation Meeting on Monday September 18th from 6:30-8:00pm. This meeting will happen in person, in room A-832. If you would like to attend, please fill out this online form so we know how many of you to expect.
Room A-832 is located on the 8th floor of the Elizabeth Wirth building (527 Sherbrooke St W, Montreal, Quebec H3A 1E3). Turn right as soon as you exit the elevators, and the room is at the end of the hall.
Right after the orientation meeting on September 18th (same day!), we will have the first Colloquial Colloquium (CoCo) of the academic year. CoCo is a place for CIRMMT students to hang out and share works-in-progress, mock presentations, ask for feedback or help, and/or just get to know your colleagues. The first CoCo will be all about meeting old and new faces - we will have an open session to ask questions, find out about each Research Axis, their student representative, current funding options that you might be able to access, and some of the current work being conducted. No need to prepare anything formal, if you have a presentation, idea or if you’re looking for collaborators and you would like to share with colleagues in a relaxed setting, send an e-mail to Alberto or Theodora and we can schedule a brief presentation timeslot. The introduction meeting will be followed by drinks, snacks, some music, and networking.
A few useful links: CIRMMT's calendar of upcoming events can be found here. If you are interested in getting involved helping at, presenting at, or organizing events at CIRMMT but not sure who to talk to, a great place to start is to talk to the Research Axis Student Coordinators list. If you have any trouble finding their contact info, feel free to reach out to Alberto or Theodora, who can also help you find something that fits with your interests and capacities.
If you have any questions or concerns about student activities at CIRMMT in the coming year, or if you have things you want to see happen that aren't happening yet, please feel free to reach out to Alberto and Theodora.
We hope you’re having a great start to the academic year and are looking forward to an interesting and invigorating new year at CIRMMT!
