Mariane is a Ph.D. candidate in Interdisciplinary Studies / Music Education at the Schulich School of Music, McGill. She holds a B.Mus (Faculty Program / Classical Piano), an M.Mus in Sound Recording, and did non-degree studies in Psychology from McGill. Co-supervised by Dr. Isabelle Cossette and Prof. Andrea Creech, Mariane's doctoral work investigates the use of music for emotion regulation (ER) in adulthood, its impact on mental health, and its use over the lifespan. In addition to her studies, Mariane acts as co-director and prior teacher for the Montreal New Horizons Band (MNHB), a non-profit founded in 2014 that functions as an intergenerational and bilingual community wind ensemble; a conductor for McGill's campus band, the Symphonic Band Club; and served as student coordinator for CIRMMT RA3 (Cognition, perception, movement) from 2018 - 2023. She has also done research in community music and music for older adults, and advocates for music education access - regardless of age or background - mental health awareness, and EDI initiatives.

Also interested in collaborating in projects related to: musicians' health and wellbeing, coping and recovery (including emotion regulation) of musicians with injuries, biomechanics of piano playing / conducting, embedding wellness into music education, and music through the lifespan.

If you're a CIRMMT student also interested in fostering a stronger sense of community through events like social / game nights and meeting people in a casual, non-research context, feel free to reach out! :)
