CIRMMT visits Virginia Tech's Institute for Creativity, Arts and Technology

April 16, 2024

On April 12th, 2024, the three directors, Fabrice Marandola, Philippe-Aubert Gauthier and Rachel Bouserhal, along with CIRMMT student Stuart Jackson, visited Blacksburg, Virginia, USA to promote CIRMMT and strengthen ties with the Institute for Creativity, Arts and Technology. They were hosted by Kyle Hutchins, Director of the Virginia Tech New Music + Technology Festival.

A recording of the short presentation given by the directors can be viewed online: ICAT Playdate — CIRMMT: Exploring Music Performance and Beyond. Their highly successful visit was completed with a concert that same evening, presented in The Cube, with works by a variety of CIRMMT members. This collaborative research environment is a completely reconfigurable immersive environment. The program was as follows:

  • Mécano 1 (2004) by Pierre Jodlowski
    • Fabrice Marandola, percussion
  • About Strings (2023) by Mélanie Frisoli
  • Coefficient: Frictional Percussion and Electronics (1991) by David Tudor
    • Stuart Jackson, percussion
  • Navigating Calmer Oceans (2023) by Tout Croche (Dominic Thibault and Stephen Harvey)
  • In a Sort of Daydream - The Invitation (2023) by Philippe-Aubert Gauthier and Tanya St-Pierre

We are looking forward to hosting the ICAT team's visit to CIRMMT in September 2024!
