Max for Live Workshop

This workshop is organized by CIRMMT Research Axis 4 [Expanded musical practice]. It will be held in A832, on 8th floor of the Elizabeth Wirth Music Building of McGill University. This workshop is free and open to all. Registration is required. / Cet atelier de recherche CIRMMT est organisé par l’axe de recherche 4 – Pratiques musicales élargies. Il aura lieu au A832 situé au 8e étage du Pavillon de musique Elizabeth Wirth de l’université McGill. L’atelier est gratuit et ouvert à tous, cependant l’inscription est nécessaire puisque le nombre de place est limité.

Description

Ableton’s 2009 release of Max for Live marked a significant convergence of two music software paradigms—patch programming languages (Max) and digital audio workstations (Live). This workshop will stage an inquiry into the ways that Max for Live is actively shaping the production and performance of electronic music today, as well as setting the conditions of possibility for its future directions. There will be several short presentations by Max for Live practitioners, an informal talk by one of Ableton Live’s co-creators Robert Henke, and an interdisciplinary discussion panel. Following the workshop, there will be a wine and cheese reception.

 

Le lancement de Max for Live par Ableton en 2009 a marqué la convergence entre les langages de programmation (Max) ainsi que les stations audionumériques (Live). Cet atelier portera sur l’apport de Max for Live en lien avec la production et la performance de musiques électroniques à ce jour, ainsi que de ces possibilités futures. Il y aura plusieurs présentations de courtes durées par des utilisateurs de Max for Life, une présentation informelle par l’un des co-créateur de Ableton Live, Robert Henke, ainsi qu’une table ronde interdisciplinaire. L’atelier sera suivi d’un vin et fromage.
