Position Summary: Reporting to the Principal Investigator (PI), the project manager is responsible for the development and implementation of the infrastructure. In adherence with CFI policies, he/she will oversee the acquisition, installation and training for the equipment, as well as be the responsible person for managing purchases (working closely with administration units at McGill such as Procurement Services and Finance) for the research projects, liaising with companies and reporting to the university.

Major duties:

  • Oversee the final design and the renovation of a state-of-the-art performance space (MMR - 425 sq. meters x 16.5 meters height). Liaise with McGill Facilities personnel to ensure compliance with design specifications.
  • Prepare and submit, in collaboration with the PI, a revised budget for the project according to CFI policies and infrastructure needs.
  • Oversee the acquisition and installation of equipment:
  • Verify research equipment options 7
  • Manage purchases (working closely with administration units at McGill)
  • Contact vendors; ensure best quality and cost options in compliance with McGill policies
  • Organize training for purchased equipment
  • Be responsible for the development and implementation of the MMR infrastructure.
  • Closely monitor the CFI project to avoid implementation delays during the first 3 years of the grant. Oversee the fit-out and equipment parts of the grant.
  • Prepare comprehensive documentation of infrastructure renovation and equipment purchased.
  • Liaise between the principal investigator of the grant, the CIRMMT Director, Assoc. Director - STR. Technical/Systems Manager, and the Schulich School of Music building director.
 

Education/Experience:

Undergraduate Degree (engineering/technical degree preferred)

Three (3) years of professional experience

 

Other qualifying experience:

Strong technical background that includes professional music and performance facility technical design. Knowledge of architectural acoustics and experience with the design and construction of high-end performance spaces. Experience with professional mixed-media music performance production. Experience managing large projects. English, spoken and written. French knowledge is an asset.
