Description
In the music community, the term ‘gesture’ has been widely used in many different contexts. Its usage and meaning, however, have not been discussed as much among researchers from different backgrounds. In linguistics and psychology, gestures are used to communicate meaning in social interaction, whereas in HCI and computer music they are used to interact with a computer-based system. Gestures may also simply be seen as body movements to project an intention. This workshop aims to explore how these varied perspectives can be discussed and challenged when different fields of research - musicology, HCI, linguistics, cognitive sciences, music performance - gather to share their thoughts.
