All CIRMMT researchers and student members interested in RA4 activities are welcome to attend, as are prospective student members who'd like to get involved in 2019-20.

Objectives

  • Workshop ideas for 2019-20

    The following suggestions can be discussed at the meeting as well as new proposals. If you have other RA4 events to propose, please add them to this Google Doc: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1_n-rsvfcccdG_WTLf3yCX2IeVKJ0LkETpcAuNBbTO6I/edit?usp=sharing 

    So far, we have two proposals that are tied to other 2019-20 CIRMMT activities:

      • Workshop on new musical interfaces and the T-Stick with D. Andrew Stewart, proposed by Takuto Fukuda in conjunction with RA1 and the February 13 live@CIRMMT concert. Stewart will offer two workshops for composers and performers before the live@CIRMMT concert, with costs to be shared by RA4, RA1, and Marcelo's IDMIL lab (TBC). This $950 will cover his travel and lodging for one of two visits.
      • Workshop on computer-aided orchestration and timbre perception with Carmine Emanuele Cella (Berkeley/CNMAT) and Philippe Esling (IRCAM), plus invited IRCAM composers Georgia Spiropoulos and Sasha J. Blondeau, proposed by Robert Hasegawa in conjunction with the IRCAM Forum in Montreal and Carmine's Distinguished Lecture. We are co-hosting an IRCAM Forum hors les murs in April 2020, and I propose the addition of a CIRMMT study day on computer-aided orchestration and perception to take advantage of the presence of composers and researchers from IRCAM as well as local CIRMMT researchers. RA3 has also expressed interest in this project and will aim to contribute a similar amount. The budget will contribute to travel fees and lodging for the four IRCAM participants. 
    Some other suggestions received over the past two years include:
      • ACTOR Project (Analysis, Creation, and Teaching of Orchestration) symposium, proposed by Kit Soden, no honoraria but reception 
      • Bach (Max/MSP) hands on workshop with Mathew C Lane, proposed by Ofer Pelz
      • Workshop on music telematics with Mark Dresser, proposed by John Hollenbeck
      • Projects for McGill's bicentennial stage, proposed by Yuval Adler, will be officially open on downtown campus in Fall 2020 and includes multichannel audio (will fall into next year’s budget, but we start discussing options now)
      • Possible talk, workshop, or performance with Alexis Emilianoff and Ramin Zoufonoun (Persian-tuned piano), proposed by Alexis Emilianoff 
      • seminar with electroacoustic composer Luca Forcucci, proposed by Martha de Francisco (he is based in Berlin, coming to Montreal in 2019-2020)

    • Initial brainstorming for 2020-21 Distinguished Lecture guests
