Abstract
Lynked: Banner of the Spark is a futuristic Action RPG that blends isometric combat with cozy town-building elements. Set in a bright, robot-filled world, players battle enemies solo or cooperatively, rescue allies, and gather resources to develop their town. The audio team navigated the challenge of delivering intense, action-oriented soundscapes alongside warm, inviting atmospheres, working within the practical constraints of indie game production.
In this talk, we will delve deeply into the key audio elements shaping the distinctive soundscape of Lynked. We'll explore our creative process and technical implementation using Wwise and Unreal Engine, demonstrating how each component contributes to the game's unified sonic identity. Topics include evoking nostalgia through musical references to classic gaming, creating and directing voice performances in the fictional robotic language "Botlish," designing futuristic yet grounded sound effects, and crafting an adaptive audio mix that highlights essential combat cues without overshadowing musical presence amidst intense battles. Additionally, we'll discuss how limited production resources shaped our creative choices and how these artistic goals subsequently guided our technical solutions.
This presentation offers valuable insights for attendees interested in the creative workflows of game audio development, adapting those workflows to the needs and constraints of a specific project, and the strategic technological decisions that underpin successful interactive sound design.
