Description
Since 2017, Interactive Audio Montreal (IAM) and the Centre for Interdisciplinary Research in Music Media and Technology (CIRMMT) have joined forces to organize a series of cutting-edge events on the new frontiers of interactive audio: techniques, trends, challenges.
IAM-CIRMMT events have had a strong long-lasting relationship with CIRMMT and are a fruit of an active outreach of CIRMMT to the vibrant community of game developers in this city. This activity is important for our students and members as a chance to engage in studying/analysing issues in the field in addition to a networking opportunity.
Program
Composing and sound designing for a humorous game - all secrets revealed
For this talk we will delve deep into the crevasses and the nitty gritty of my approach in creating the soundscape of a comedy game. We will go through my creative process, my choice of instruments and musical elements to create a "sound palette" for games. Follow me into a world of creation where ducks, screams, flesh and opera are "just another day at the office". - Léandre Monette.
Bio
Léandre Monette is a Montreal-based composer specialized in video games. He is best known as the composer behind the soundtrack of Chasing Rats' Struggling, a grotesque co-op physics-based humorous game.
His earliest experience in scoring for interactive media has come from various indie games and VR movies, until he partnered with Chasing Rats as a full time composer. His past studies and experience in various genres have allowed him to cover a wide range of styles in his compositions.
He also collaborates with other game studios such as Manavoid Entertainment, Lowbirth games and many more.
He is currently working on the latest Chasing Rats title, Worship, a game in which players blindly serve a dreadful god and lead its cult. It's a fresh take on the roguelike genre inspired by Pikmin.
