Description

Following the improv@CIRMMT concert on 11 February and live@CIRMMT concert on 13 February, CIRMMT composers involved in the events will present their work in building and performing with Digital Musical Instruments (DMIs). DMIs open up a possibility to interconnect performer's gestures and sound into a performance of live electronic music. What does this emergent field of music mean to the composers? While Saint-Denis’ scenographic instruments are designed to mediate two different performing agents, i.e., a human performer and an autonomous computer system, Tibbitts and Sullivan’s Bionic harp is designed to transmit the harpist’s embodied intention through electroacoustic sound. The composers will speak on what creative aims supported such differences, and how those different aims affect their choice of sounds and form in the compositions. Through a series of 15-minute presentations, this workshop will illuminate a broad spectrum of explorations by the CIRMMT composers in this emergent field of music for new musical interfaces.
