Description
Established in 2024, Roland Future Design Lab (RFDL) is the global frontier technologies research and development department of Roland Corporation Japan. In this presentation, Paul McCabe, leader of RFDL, will introduce the team’s vision and mission, and highlight some of the many projects being worked on including the AI For Music program with Universal Music Group, and Project LYDIA, the new physical AI proof-of-concept being developed in partnership with Neutone. Paul and Kumon will also be happy to answer questions about Roland and the work being done in RFDL.
Biographies
Paul McCabe, SVP Research & Innovation
Paul McCabe has been with Roland for 35 years. After a long career with Roland Canada, where he served as President and CEO from 2009 through 2016, he transferred to Los Angeles where he now leads Roland Future Design Lab. Paul also serves on the Executive Board of the MIDI Association, is a member of the Interactive Audio Sig AI Working Group, and is a contributing member of the C2PA Audio Task Force. Paul is a composer, producer, sound designer, and avid fan of science fiction.
Taichi Kumon, Engineer
Taichi Kumon is an engineer and researcher at Roland Future Design Lab. He holds a master's degree focused on combining artificial intelligence with modular synthesizers, exploring new forms of human - AI creativity through music technology. After joining Roland, he has been contributing to the development of Project LYDIA Phase 2 as a hardware and firmware engineer.
