A meeting where CIRMMT Student Representatives for 2026–2027, Kalen Smith and David Piazza, will share an introductory talk with information and events happening around CIRMMT this academic year. It will be fruitful for both prospective or returning CIRMMT student members: we'll supply information on how to become a student member, and provide interesting opportunities to meet others, participate in activities, and collaborate in research.
For those who are new to CIRMMT or anyone who would like a refresher on the resources available to CIRMMT Student Members and how to access them, there will be a Student Member Orientation Meeting on Wednesday September 22nd from 5:30pm. This meeting will happen in person in room A-832 on the 8th floor of the Elizabeth Wirth building (527 Sherbrooke St W, Montreal, Quebec H3A 1E3). To access it, turn right as soon as you exit the elevators, and the room is at the end of the hall.
Immediately after the orientation meeting on September 22nd (same day!), we will have the first Colloquial Colloquium (CoCo) of the academic year. CoCo is a place for CIRMMT students to hang out and share works-in-progress, mock presentations, ask for feedback or help, and/or relax while getting to know your colleagues.
The first CoCo will be all about meeting old and new faces - we will have an open session to ask questions, find out about each Research Axis and their student representatives, current funding options that you might be able to access, and some of the current work being conducted. If you have a presentation, idea or if you’re looking for collaborators and you would like to share with colleagues in a relaxed setting, send an e-mail (kalen.smith[AT]mail[DOT]mcgill.ca or david.piazza[AT]umontreal.ca) and we can schedule a brief presentation time for you. No need to prepare anything formal.
The orientation, CoCo, and networking afterwards will include drinks, snacks, and copious amounts of music.
If you would like to attend one or both events on September 22nd, please fill out this MS form: https://forms.cloud.microsoft/r/VVM7rc57rx so we know how many of you to expect.
A few useful links: CIRMMT's calendar of upcoming events can be found here. If you are interested in getting involved helping at, presenting at, or organizing events at CIRMMT but you're not sure who to talk to, a great starting place is the Research Axis Student Coordinators or you can e-mail the CIRMMT events coordinator (info[AT]cirmmt[DOT]org). A full list of the RA Student Coordinators can be found here. If you have any trouble finding their contact info, feel free to send either of us an email and we can put you in touch. You can also ask questions directly to either of us, and we'll help you find something that fits your interests and capacities. Finally: if you have any questions or concerns about student activities at CIRMMT in the coming year, or if you have things you want to see happen that aren't happening yet, please feel free to reach out to us!
We hope you’re having a great start to the academic year and are looking forward to an invigorating new year at CIRMMT.
