Description
There has been a recent explosion in the number of hardware controllers that can be used for musical performance. Both custom and general-purpose controllers (Wii controller, Kinect) are available, along with a wide range of corresponding software (open source and otherwise). How should we play these interfaces? What performance strategies can be employed? What new performance contexts exist?
This workshop will be a forum for discussing design and performance with Digital Musical Instruments (DMIs). David Wessel will present his recent work on the topic, followed by a round table discussion.
Participants will also have an opportunity to demonstrate their controllers during the workshop. Please indicate your interest and any technical requirements in your registration.
The workshop will be followed by a wine and cheese reception.
There will be a Research Axis 2 meeting before the workshop. More information about this can be found here: Musical Gestures, Devices and Motion Capture Axis Meeting
