Workshop on Voice: Acoustics, Physiology and Pedagogy (with Johan Sundberg)

This workshop is jointly organized by CIRMMT Research Axes 1 (Sound Modeling, Acoustics and Signal Processing) and 2 (Musical Gestures, Devices and Motion Capture). It will take place on January 21st, 2009 at McGill University (A832, New Music Building, 527 Sherbrooke St. West). Registration is free.

This workshop is open to everyone. 

Description

This workshop will address acoustic, physiologic, and pedagogic aspects of voice research for members of both the scientific and music communities.  It is organized in conjunction with the Distinguished Lecture of the preeminent singing voice acoustician Johan Sundberg (which will take place on 22 January 2009).  The morning session will address acoustical aspects of voice research and its use in voice pedagogy, while the afternoon session will be more related to physiological and pedagogic aspects.  We hope to engage invited guests and the audience in several discussion sessions.

  • 9:00 Welcome and introductory remarks
  • 9:10 Morning session on voice acoustics and its use in voice pedagogy will include presentations by Philippe Depalle, Luc Mongeau, discussion and round table sessions

  • 13:15 Afternoon session on voice physiology and its use in voice pedagogy will include  presentations by Johan Sundberg and Isabelle Cossette and discussion and round table sessions
