Eliot Britton is a composer-researcher whose hybrid practice links studio production, instrumental composition, and interactive media. He publishes on electronic music, post-digital aesthetics, and research-creation, alongside a collaborative artistic output that ranges from large-scale touring orchestral and live-electronics works to immersive chamber projects and installation-based formats. Research areas include live electronics; hybrid instrumental practice and production; analytical models for rhythmic syntax in electronic music; the timbre and materiality of music technology as a formal function; and ethical applications of AI technologies in music composition.
Since 2024, Britton has been Associate Professor of Music Research (Composition) at McGill University and co-director of the Digital Composition Studios. Previously, he directed the University of Toronto Electronic Music Studios (2016–23), supporting major studio renewals and contributing to the growth of music technology initiatives and curricula.
Britton is co-founder and co-director (co-curator) of the Cluster New Music + Integrated Arts Festival, and remains actively involved with arts organizations across Canada through board, mentorship and leadership roles. He first joined CIRMMT as a student member during his masters degree and continues to engage interdisciplinary research environments that connect technology, performance, and new musical practice.
