Ichiro Fujinaga is Canada Research Chair in Music Information Retrieval and Professor in the Music Technology Area of the Department of Music Research at the Schulich School of Music, McGill University. He has Bachelor’s degrees in Mathematics and Music (Percussion) from University of Alberta, a Master’s degree in Music Theory, and a Ph.D. in Music Technology from McGill University. From 1993 to 2002, he was a faculty member of the Computer Music Department at the Peabody Conservatory of Music of the Johns Hopkins University. Returning to McGill, he became the Acting Director of CIRMMT (2003–2004). In 2016–17, he was the Associate Dean (Research), Department of Music Research. Over twenty years, he was a member of Montreal’s traditional Japanese drumming group Arashi Daiko and toured with them across North America and Europe.
