A report on our first networking event, held on April 13th

On April 13th CIRMMT hosted our first Talent, Research and Job Fair event, showcasing our members' and industry participants' cutting-edge research projects, while providing networking opportunities for students and professionals in the field.

The event, which was held in the lobby of Elizabeth Wirth Music Building (Schulich School of Music, McGill University), featured presentations from the Centre's friends from the industry sector, whose researchers gave presentations on a range of topics, including computer-based music performance, music and sound perception, virtual reality environments for musical interaction, and tools for music augmentation. Companies in attendance included industry leaders such as Yamaha, AVID Technologies and OrchPlayMusic, among others.

The presentations were followed by a job fair part of the event - a "speed dating" 1-on-1 session between the presenters from the industry sector and CIRMMT's student and academic members, providing attendees with the opportunity to ask questions and learn more about the research being conducted at the companies, as well as connect with potential employers and learn about job opportunities in the field.

The Talent Research and Job Fair was an important opportunity for students and professionals in the music technology field to learn about the latest research and connect with potential employers. CIRMMT Director Fabrice Marandola said in a statement, "Our goal with this event is to create a space where students and professionals can come together, learn from one another, and explore new opportunities in this exciting and rapidly-evolving field."

Attendees at the event were impressed with the quality of the research presentations and the level of engagement from the participating companies. "I found the research presentations to be really fascinating," said one attendee. "And the job fair was a great opportunity to connect with companies and learn about potential job opportunities."

Overall, the Talent Research and Job Fair was a success, providing attendees with valuable insights into the latest developments in music technology research and potential career opportunities in the field.
