Summary
Le son du futur / Le futur du son was an international conference organized by the Centre for Interdisciplinary Research in Music Media and Technology (CIRMMT) thanks to a Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC) Connection grant. Held in Montréal from May 24 to 27, 2022, the event explored the future of sound and music through performances, installations, panels, and presentations that brought together artists, researchers, and technologists from around the world.

Context

Approach
The conference combined academic presentations, creative performances, workshops, and installations, as well as the CIRMMT-OICRM-BRAMS Student Symposium. It emphasized interdisciplinary exchange, featuring keynote talks, student symposia, and collaborations between artists and researchers. Each activity highlighted different dimensions of sonic innovation—from spatial audio and instrument design to media art and music cognition.
Outcomes & Impact
The conference generated a vibrant exchange of ideas, with numerous performances and presentations documenting current directions in sound and music research.
