We're happy to announce a workshop with CIRMMT Distinguished Lecturer Mari Kimura on the long-term support of DMIs, and we invite proposals for presentations and lecture-recitals on this subject from CIRMMT members and the wider community, culminating in a round table discussion.
Description
Following Mari Kimura's Distinguished Lecture on November 3, 2025, a CIRMMT Workshop on the Supporting DMIs for the long haul is planned for Wednesday, November 5. Digital Musical Instruments (DMIs) continue to expand the boundaries of musical expression, offering novel interactions between performers, technologies, and audiences. However, many DMIs face significant challenges in long-term use, including issues of durability, software obsolescence, evolving performer needs, and preservation of artistic intent. This workshop seeks proposals that engage with the challenges of long-term DMI use, showcasing examples of long-lived DMIs in artistic and research contexts.
