Dominic Thibault is an electronic musician, composer, improviser, coder, and educator. He is a member of the duo Tout Croche and co-director of the record label The Silent Howl. His music lies at the intersection of musique concrète, noise, minimal techno, and soundscape composition.
Dominic Thibault is an Associate Professor at the Faculty of Music of the Université de Montréal. He teaches undergraduate courses in composition, music computing, and studio techniques. He also supervises graduate students in sound creation and composition. He is co-director of Laboratoire Formes·Ondes and an active member of CIRMMT and RCMS.
Dominic Thibault’s work focuses on the interactive systems that emerge within digital music practices. More specifically, he investigates human–computer interaction and its impact on musical creation. His research-creation practice encompasses electroacoustic compositions, audiovisual performances, music software, and noise improvisation. His music has been released by The Silent Howl, Entr’acte, Kohlenstoff, and Mikro Climat. He publishes in the field of human–computer interaction, with a particular focus on embodied cognition in musical contexts. His research has received funding from the Fonds de recherche du Québec – Société et culture, the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada, the Observatoire interdisciplinaire de création et de recherche en musique (OICRM), the Centre for Interdisciplinary Research in Music Media and Technology (CIRMMT), and the Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec.
