FRQNT International Internship Program

N.B.: The complete details of this program, its rules, eligibility conditions, review process etc., can be found on the FRQNT's website. 

However, during the COVID-19 situation, this program is not yet running for applications for 2021.

Please note that CIRMMT is only able to submit a total of two candidates per year for a total request of $15,000.

Eligibility

  • The international internship is intended for Master's or Doctoral students enrolled full-time in a Quebec university or in a university outside QuĂ©bec who meets the requirements of their program. Students must be enrolled for the full period of the award funding.
  • The proposed research outlined in the application as part of the internship must be related to CIRMMT and its research axes.  
  • Citizenship/permit rules are taken into consideration for this funding
  • Location of the internship: The internship must take place outside Quebec for students enrolled in a Quebec university. The internship must occur in Quebec for students from abroad. Students who are jointly supervised by a researcher in a foreign university (co-degree) are not eligible to apply for an international internship scholarship to visit one of their home universities.
  • Duration of the internship: The internship must be of a minimum duration of 2 months and a maximum of 6 months.
  • Award amounts: A maximum amount of $2500 per month will be awarded to successful applicants.
  • Start date of the internship: The internship must start no later than September 30th.
  • Restrictions: Students who are jointly supervised by a researcher in a foreign university (co-degree) are not eligible to apply for an international internship scholarship to visit one of their home universities.
  • PLEASE NOTE that to be considered eligible for CIRMMT funding, CIRMMT students are expected to attend:
    • EITHER a minimum of 4 out of 6 Distinguished Lectures in the 12 months prior to the application deadline, 
    • OR a minimum of 3 out of 6 Distinguished Lectures and significantly contribute to the organization of a CIRMMT workshop along with the RA co-leaders in the 12 months prior to the application deadline.
    • NOTE: In both situations above, ONE Distinguished Lecture can be replaced by attending a live@CIRMMT concert.
    • Students from universities outside Montreal (U. de Sherbrooke and UniversitĂ© Laval) are exempt, but are encouraged to attend when possible. CIRMMT funding applications will include a section where students will be able to indicate which Distinguished Lectures they have attended. 
    • Extenuating circumstances will be reviewed - proof must be provided.

    Application Process

    • BEFORE submitting your application form, please create an FRQnet account. You must have an FRQ PIN in order to apply. 
    • DEADLINE: Applications (form and additional documents) can be submitted to CIRMMT any time between November 15 and January 5 each year. 
    • If a deadline falls on a weekend, applications will be accepted through the following Monday at 4pm.

    • The additional documents required are:
      • A copy of your study permit (for foreign students)
      • Your CV
      • A letter from the host research centre
      • A letter from your home institution/CIRMMT supervisor, specifying the start and end date of the internship
      • A one-page summary of the nature of the internship
      • Your unofficial student transcript
    • Late or incomplete applications will not be considered.
    • Recipients must provide a report detailing the activities carried out during the internship (details below).

    Review Process

    • Applications will be reviewed by a committee of 3-4 CIRMMT members, including the Director, on the FRQNT stipulated criteria.
    • If successful, the application will be submitted to the FRQNT by the CIRMMT Director by the FRQNT deadline of March 1st.
    • Results will be given approximately one month after the FRQNT receive the application(s).

    Internship Report - Mandatory

    • A report detailing the activities carried out during the internship must be sent to the FRQNT's program administrator no later than one month after the end of the internship. Please cc in CIRMMT's Office Administrator.
    • This report is done in an open format of about one page and must present the following:
      • a presentation of the training site;
      • a description of the project(s) the intern has worked on and contributed;
      • a general assessment of the course and acquired research skills;
      • a presentation of collaborations and potential impacts for CIRMMT that have been developed, if applicable.
    • If a student is in default of having submitted the internship report according to the rules, CIRMMT cannot file new applications to the international internship program as long as the situation is not rectified.
